Volunteering & the Women’s Association

Women's Association
Through their efforts, the Women’s Association helps to support the Jewish Eldercare of Rhode Island (JERI) holiday observances program, friendly visits to nursing home residents, and JSA special projects. Annual membership in the Women’s Association is $15. A lifetime membership is available for $200.

At the JSA, our Women’s Association and many volunteers not only make our programs better, in many cases they make them possible. The JSA Women’s Association helps to raise funds and coordinate our volunteers that together complement our entire range of programs and services.

The Women’s Association helps to provide financial support to the JSA through its membership fees, annual raffle, and the proceeds from their knit shoppe, which is located at Tamarisk, 3 Shalom Drive, Warwick. The knit shoppe offers beautiful hand knitted children’s sweaters (for infants through size 4), afghans and lap robes. To arrange an appointment to see the beautiful knitted wear, call Rachel Rollins at 401-621-5374.

Our Volunteers: Helping To Put Life Into Living

Every day, JSA volunteers are visiting nursing home residents to share conversation and our faith. Sometimes it’s just holding someone’s hand. Whatever the opportunity, volunteers play a vital role in helping senior members of our community live full and rewarding lives:

Current Volunteer Opportunities

  • Through the JERI Program, we conduct weekly Shabbat services at nursing homes and Assisted Livings. We are always looking for volunteers. This is a weekly or biweekly volunteer opportunity that takes no more than an hour and a half of your time.
  • The Louis & Goldie Chester Full Plate Kosher Food Pantry is looking for volunteers to deliver bags of food to various parts of Rhode Island. Some of our clients are unable to come to our food pantry, so we bring it to them. We could also use volunteers to work in The Louis & Goldie Chester Full Plate on Tuesdays and Fridays from 10am to 2pm, to help walk-in recipients pick up their food.
  • We also need volunteers to help deliver gifts three times a year to Jewish nursing homes residents. This is a great opportunity for families. Join us for Rosh Hashanah, Purim, and Chanukkah.
